Langkawi attraction no. 1

Tourist place no. 1 on the island of Langkawi is the ride by the cable car. "The steepest cable car ride on earth that takes visitors up 708m above sea level to Langkawi's second highest peak of Mt. Machinchang". Apparently there not just to offer a great views but to make money.

It's an attraction. It's a nice uplifting experience. The vertical drop and the views are truly outstanding. And the experience is further supported by the SkyBridge walk (additional 5RM adult, 3RM kids 2-12). This is worth it.

Apart from a cable car you get an entrance to 3 more attractions.

Skydome. The TripAdvisor reviews are really poor therefore we have not wasted our time there.

SkyRex. Tad seemed to enjoy it. Though not sure whether worth waiting a double time than was the length of the show (and believe this could be much worse). Like they wanted to pack everything into one single shot of action. 3D in 360 degrees. Not an extra resolution. Moving seating (of a bus?) to make an experience even more interesting. Dinosaurs (ask Tad what exactly, please), erupting volcano shooting rocks, falling buildings and helicopter. Screaming girls sittin in the first row with us. All in burkas. That's what I remember...

3D Art. Did not expect much but abstracting from the fact it's kind of schmaltzy we have all actually enjoyed it. And made many photos which would describe the place much better than words.

And now for the negatives:

Queuing. Buy a fast line ticket or wait and let the kids wait with you. It was some 20 min for us, but we believe this might be much much longer.

Water. You have to leave your water at the entrance to the cable car. And guess what? Yes, naturally, everything is overpriced up there. And, yes, you spend there some hour or two in very hot weather. This is truly a great shame and hard to believe this "logic".

Price. Actually 2 price levels. Domestic and Foreign. Yes, we know, its in most places within the region. But should I really explain the kids all the aspects of inequality and racism? Anyway, standard price 55 RM for adult anf 40 for children (2-12 years). (We have saved 5% booking through the www.travelog.com.)

Shops. Every shop has similar choice of nothing but schmaltzy, turist, cheap (but overpriced) crap and souvenirs.
